Enhancing Carbon Sequestration in Mediterranean Agroforestry Systems: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

The agroforestry systems with a high potential for C sequestration are those degraded by poor management strategies. Studies on changes in soil status these ecosystems mostly take into account labile pools. Labile and stable organic matter (SOM) fractions affected land-use changes. Stable pools essential to understanding effects of storage the long term. SOM stability is partly enhanced interaction minerals its inclusion aggregates. Recalcitrant substances (e.g., lignin chitin) also contribute passive fraction. Macroaggregates reflect influence plant roots coarse intra-aggregate particulate (POM), whereas microaggregates fine interaggregate POM, clay concentration humified Often, POM more sensitive than total SOM. Glomalin recalcitrant protein consisting chitin produced mycorrhizal fungi protect hyphae. has implications soils, but further research needed before any prediction can be made. One challenge reducing CO2 emission from roots, increasing root C.

Carbon sequestration in tropical agroforestry systems

Removing atmospheric carbon (C) and storing it in the terrestrial biosphere is one of the options, which have been proposed to compensate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Agricultural lands are believed to be a major potential sink and could absorb large quantities of C if trees are reintroduced to these systems and judiciously managed together with crops and/or animals. Thus, the importance of ...

Enhancing Process Kinetics for Mineral Carbon Sequestration

The current low-cost process for mineral carbonation involves the direct carbonation of a slurry of magnesium or calcium silicate mineral with supercritical CO2. The process is currently limited by the slow reaction kinetics of the carbonation reactions, and in particular the slow dissolution rates of the silicates in weakly acidic conditions. Enhancing the dissolution rate in weakly acidic con...

linking soil organic carbon stocks to land-use types in a mediterranean agroforestry landscape

in agroforestry landscapes, land use, and the associated management practices exert strong impacts upon soil organic carbon stocks. data on the soil organic carbon were collected for different land-use types within a small watershed, el salado, located in lanjarón (se spain). eight land-use types namely: farmland planted in olive, almond, and cereals; forest with pinus halepensis mill. and pinu...

Enhancing serpentine dissolution kinetics for mineral carbon dioxide sequestration

Mineral carbon dioxide sequestration binds carbon dioxide by reacting it with magnesium silicate minerals to form solid magnesium carbonates that are ready for disposal. Research onmineral sequestration has focused on enhancing process kinetics in aqueous processing schemes. High costs of these processes are associatedwithmineral processing, such as ultrafine grinding, or the consumption of aci...
